Making Midwest Concrete Floors Shine with Fortified Concrete Coatings

November 19, 2024

Whether it's a garage, a basement, or a commercial space, concrete floors take a beating. At Fortified Concrete Coatings, we don't just protect your floors — we give them a polished, professional look that fits your space and style.

Here are the two systems we install across Southeast Michigan, and how to think about which one is right for you.

Option 1 — Polyurea Flake System

Our go-to for garages, basements, and any space that needs to shrug off real-world abuse. Polyurea is roughly four times stronger than traditional epoxy, cures fast, and stays flexible through Michigan's temperature swings.

  • Tough and versatile — resists impacts, chemical spills, and daily wear.
  • Fully customizable colors and flake blends to fit your space.
  • Fast cure — walk on it the next morning, drive on it in 48 hours.
  • Low-maintenance, seamless surface that stays easy to clean for years.

Option 2 — Grind & Shine (Polished Concrete)

Instead of adding a coating on top, we refine the concrete you already have — grinding, densifying, and progressively polishing until the slab itself becomes the finished floor. The result is a low-profile, natural surface that reads sharp under any lighting.

  • Sleek polished finish that highlights the concrete's natural beauty.
  • Moisture- and stain-resistant once densified and sealed.
  • Minimal upkeep — dust-mop and damp-mop is the whole routine.
  • Environmentally friendly process — no coatings added, uses the slab you already have.

Our 5-Step Process

Both systems follow the same overall workflow — the details just change in the middle. Here's what a typical Fortified project looks like from first call to final handoff.

  1. 01

    Consultation

Joe walks your space in person, listens to how you use it, and recommends the right system — coating, polish, or both.

  2. 02

    Preparation

Diamond grinding, crack repair, and expansion-joint work — the boring step that decides whether a floor lasts 5 years or 25.

  3. 03

    Installation

Base coat, full-broadcast flake, and topcoat — or progressive diamond polishing to your chosen sheen — installed by the owner-led crew.

  4. 04

    Cure & Detail

Vertical edges, steps, and transitions are finished so the whole space reads as one intentional install.

  5. 05

    Final Walkthrough

We hand the space back cleaner than we found it, walk you through care, and register your warranty on the spot.
