Rockwood is small — about 3,200 people on two and a half square miles — and settled. The median home was built in the mid-1960s, three-quarters are owner-occupied, and the housing runs from Craftsman and Colonial Revival homes in the old village near Fort Street and Wood Street, through the 1950s-to-70s ranches that make up most of the city, to the later subdivisions and condos like Huron Meadows, Cambridge Meadows, Silver Creek, Kingsbridge, and Riverfront Estates. Lots are generous by Downriver standards, and most homes have a two-car garage.
That mid-century concrete has been through sixty Michigan winters. We see pitted thresholds, spider cracks, expansion joints that have chipped out, old oil stains, and the occasional peeling box-store coating. The subdivision slabs from the 80s and 90s have a different problem: a builder-grade broom finish that was never sealed. Both take a premium coating beautifully once they're properly ground and repaired.
