Canton is Michigan's second-largest township, and it was built in waves. The first big subdivisions — Holiday Park, then Windsor Park and Carriage Hills along Sheldon Road — went up in the late 60s and 70s, when the township was adding as many as 2,000 homes a year. The 1990s and 2000s brought the larger-lot communities: Glengarry, Pheasant Run around its 27-hole golf course, Central Park, Sunflower Village, and the new-urbanist Cherry Hill Village with its Village Theater and town square. And it hasn't stopped: Pulte, M/I, Toll Brothers, and Lombardo are still building along Geddes, Cherry Hill, Beck, and Warren, with thousands of approved units in the pipeline. The median Canton home was built in 1988, three-quarters are owner-occupied, and an attached two- or three-car garage over a full basement is simply the standard.
Almost none of those garage slabs were ever sealed. A builder-grade broom finish looks fine on move-in day and then dusts, drinks up oil, and holds road salt like a sponge from the first winter on. The 1970s slabs along Sheldon have fifty winters of freeze-thaw on top of that. Both take a premium coating beautifully once they're properly ground and repaired — and in Canton, with clean, sound, relatively young concrete, these are some of the fastest and most dramatic transformations we do.
